China: Zinc imports rise by 17% m-o-m in Nov'22, exports fall by nearly 60%

China's zinc imports stood at 466,546 tonnes (t) in November 2022, an increase of 17% m-o-m compared to 400,424 t in October. Similarly, on a yearly basis, import volumes rose by 18% as against 394,388 t in November 2021.

Out of the total volumes, ores/concentrates stood at 49,206 t (up 14% m-o-m), semi-finished products at 17,096 t (increasing drastically by 162%) and finished products at 245 t (down 18%).

Country wise imports-

• Imports from Australia: China's zinc imports from Australia stood at 105,581 t in November, down 24% compared to 138,378 in October. The volumes went down by 28% y-o-y compared to 147,632 t in November 2021.
  
  
• Imports from Peru: Imports from Peru increased by 78% m-o-m to 86,288 t in the month under review as against 48,356 t in October. On a y-o-y basis, the volume rose by 73% from 39,084 t in the corresponding month last year (CPLY).
  
  
• Imports from South Africa: Imports from South Africa were recorded at 48,424 t in November from 39,084 t in the previous month, up 24% m-o-m. However, imports increased by 7% as against 45,160 t in CPLY.
  
  

China's zinc exports fall m-o-m

The country's zinc exports stood at 2,777 t in November, falling drastically by 59% m-o-m from 6,803 t in October. However, on a y-o-y basis, exports surged by 174% from 1,015 t in November 2021.

Of this, semi finish products were at 2,015 t (down 67% m-o-m) and finished products at 763 t (increasing by 10%).

Country wise imports-

• • • Exports to USA decrease: China exported 1,159 t of zinc products to USA in November, a sharp decrease of 57% m-o-m compared to 2,686 t in October. On a y-o-y basis, the volume exported geared up by 349% from 258 t in November 2021.
      
      
    • Exports to Vietnam inch down: Exports to Vietnam stood at 405 t in the month under review, down slightly by 4% compared to 421 t in October. Compared to November 2021, exports rose by 33%.
      
      
    • Exports to Taiwan: Exports to Taiwan went up by 130% m-o-m to 200 t in November as against 87 t in October. On a y-o-y basis, exports rose by a whopping 852% compared to November 2021.
