China: Steel imports down 29% in Jan-Sept

China imported 1.256 million tonnes (mn t) of steel in Sept'21, up 193,000 t or 18.2% m-o-m. The average price is $1,375.6/t, down $65.1/t or 4.5% m-o-m. During Jan-Sept'21, the cumulative imports of steel were 10.716 mn t, down 4.354 mn t or 28.9% y-o-y.

Iron ore: In Sept'21, China imported 95.611 mn t of iron ore, down 1.881 mn t or 1.9% m-o-m. The average price was $177.4/t, down $30.2/t or 14.5% m-o-m. During Jan-Sept'21, the cumulative imports of iron ore were at 841.953 mn t, down 25.652 mn t, or 3% y-o-y.

Steel exports: In Sept'21, China exported 4.92 mn t of steel, down 133,000 t, or 2.6% m-o-m. The average price was $14.831/t, up $39.3/t or 2.7% m-o-m. The cumulative exports of steel during Jan-Sept'21 were at 53.024 mn t, up 12.643 mn t y-o-y or 31.3%.
