- State-owned China Energy leads with 568 mnt, up 2.8%
- Jinneng Holding Group ranks second with 367.83 mnt
Mysteel Global: China's top 10 coal mining companies saw their combined production touch 2.16 billion tonnes (bnt) during the first eleven months of this year, down by 23.22 mnt or 1.1% from the same period of 2023, according to new data released by the China National Coal Association (CNCA). The volume accounted for 50% of the country's total raw coal production over January-November.
Specifically, the Beijing-based state-owned China Energy Investment Corporation maintained its place as the country's top coal producer, with an output of 568 mnt during the first eleven months, up by 2.8% from the same period last year.
The second-largest miner Jinneng Holding Group, headquartered in Datong city of North China's Shanxi province, produced 367.83 mnt over January-November, down by 7.9% from a year earlier. Similarly, coal produced by Shanxi Coking Coal Group also recorded a 1.7% y-o-y decline to 165.32 mnt.
Authorities in the coal-rich province Shanxi had conducted strict safety inspections on coal mines in the first half year, aiming to rein in mining activities above the approved capacities and tame mine accidents. This is mainly to be blamed for consecutive y-o-y falls in the top ten miners' production. However, the declines eased as the province relaxed its safety checks entering the second half year, Mysteel Global learnt.
