China's new ship orders decreased by 44.8%, y-o-y, to 15.39 million deadweight tonnes (dwt) in January-April 2022 period. The completed orders stood at 11.71 million dwt, down 8.6% y-o-y, according to data released by China Shipbuilding Industry Association.
Towards the end of April 2022, total ship orders in hand rose by 21.7% y-o-y to 102.47 million dwt.
It is to be noted that China's shipbuilding completions, new orders and hand-held orders accounted for 43.8%, 54.1% and 48.5% of the world's total market share, respectively.
Ship-building exports: In January-April, nationwide ship exports decreased by 14.8% to 10.28 million dwt, against the year-ago period. Undertaken ship orders fell by 44.7%, y-o-y to 13.66 million dwt in the period under review.
Meanwhile, 90.17 million dwt of ship export orders were recorded at the end of April, up 20.5% y-o-y.
Ship orders by key enterprises drop 49%
About 11.24 million dwt of ships were completed by 50 key monitoring shipbuilding enterprises in January-April, dropping by 11.3% against the same period last year. New ship orders totalled 14.22 million dwt, down 48.7% y-o-y.
Meanwhile, ship orders in hand at the end of April were at 99.22 million dwt, up 20% y-o-y.
Ship exports: Key shipbuilding enterprises completed ships exports of 10.26 million dwt, down 14.4% from last year. Orders for the same declined 46.2%, y-o-y to 13.28 million dwt. Out of the completed volume, the share of ships exports stood at 91.3%, newly received orders at 93.4%, and orders received by significant shipbuilding enterprises at 90.4%.
