China: Ferro alloys imports up 12% y-o-y in CY'23

Manganese ore imports climb up by 5% y-o-y in CY'23

• Manganese ore imports rose by 5% y-o-y in CY'23 to 31 mnt as against 30 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• The elevation in imports can be attributed to a marginal uptick in crude steel production by 1% to 1,011 mnt in CY'23 in comparison with 1,020 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• South Africa (14.64 mnt) was the prominent exporter in CY'23.
  
  
• However, imports m-o-m declined by 23% in December 2023 to 2.29 mnt in comparison with 2.98 mnt in November 2023.
  
  

Chrome ore imports rise 22% y-o-y in CY'23

• Chrome ore imports in China rose by 22% y-o-y in CY'23 to 18.33 mnt which was 15.01 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• South Africa(14.92 mnt) emerged as the major exporter in CY'23.
  
  
• Meanwhile, the imports m-o-m increased by 10% in December 2023 to 2 mnt as compared to 1.81 mnt in November 2023.
  
  

Ferro chrome imports increase 36% y-o-y in CY'23

• Ferro chrome imports in China went up by 36% y-o-y in CY'23 to 3.25 mnt, compared to 2.38 mnt in CY'22.
  
  
• The cumulative hike in imports y-o-y might be attributed to the rise in stainless steel production to 35.7 mnt in CY'23 as against 32.7 mnt in CY'22, (mentioned quantity is on provisional basis).
  
  
• In CY'23, South Africa (1.89 mnt) was the leading exporter.
  
  
• Meanwhile, imports m-o-m declined by 26% in December 2023 to 0.22 mnt as against 0.30 mnt in November 2023.
