The member mills of China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) registered an 11% y-o-y decline in medium-plate production in Aug'21. These major rolling mills produced 5.31 million tonnes (mn t) of medium plates of 4-20 mm thickness last month.
On a m-o-m basis, the output of medium-plates by these mills slipped 8.6%, SteelMint learned from reports.
The average daily output of medium plates by the key steel mills was 171,000 tonnes (t) in August.
Plate production from China mills up in Aug
Production of hot-rolled plates by CISA mills was recorded at 15.96 mn t, up 2.4% y-o-y and stable m-o-m. Average daily output of HR plates was 515,000 t.
Production of cold-rolled plates from the cold continuous rolling mills of the key producers in China totalled 6.42 mn t, up 8.4% y-o-y and 1.4% m-o-m, with daily output at 207,000 t.
Plate output on application basis
Shipbuilding: Production declined by 1.6% y-o-y to 800,000 t in Aug'21. However, it was almost stable on a m-o-m basis. Accumulated output in Jan-Aug'21 stood at 6.22 mn t, down 3.1% y-o-y.
Pipelines: Pipeline plate output in Aug was recorded at 370,000 t, up 28% y-o-y and 19.8% m-o-m. In Jan-Aug'21, plate production amounted to 2.52 mn t, up 3.6% on year.
Automobile: Production of plates used in the automobile sector fell by 5.4% y-o-y and 6.8% m-o-m to 2.6 mn t last month. The same totalled 24.54 mn t in Jan-Aug.
Home appliances: Plate production used in manufacturing of consumer durables registered a significant 26% growth y-o-y at 850,000 t in August. Production rebounded m-o-m compared to the previous month.
