Baosteel Group subsidiary Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron and Steel's all-hydrogen, zero-carbon green demonstration plant, with a 1 million tonne (mn t) hydrogen-based shaft furnace was inaugurated on 23 Dec'21.
The project will build China's first self-integrated shaft furnace, and the world's first shaft furnace that directly adds hydrogen for the reduction process.
It is expected to enhance Baowu's emissions reduction competitiveness. The formation of low-carbon metallurgical process technology with the group's own intellectual property rights is of great significance to future low-carbon development.
Zhanjiang Iron and Steel is imbued with the mission of building an efficient green carbon steel manufacturing base. It is committed to green manufacturing, actively exploring new areas of low-carbon metallurgy.
The company strives to achieve China's 'dual carbon' goal, so that the entire lifecycle of steel can contribute to building a carbon-neutral society, and help China Baowu become a pioneer in achieving carbon neutrality in the steel industry.
