Local authorities in Tangshan in North China's Hebei province have given five local iron ore mining enterprises permission to restart operations, the five being among the majority of the city's miners obliged to suspend production following a flood accident in a local mine in September last year.
The five have a combined daily output of run-of-mine iron ore totalling 20,000 tonnes/day and their total concs production is some 4,000 t/d, according to Mysteel's assessment.
Tangshan's authorities have determined that only mining firms with an iron ore concentrates production capacity above 300,000 tonnes/year are allowed to apply to resume operations, Mysteel Global noted. All five miners meet the threshold.
Moreover, the five have passed acceptance inspections on environmental protection and safety conducted by both municipal and provincial governments, Mysteel Global learned.
However, in the short term the firms will struggle to resume their production to full capacity as they need to hire more workers and make new production plans after the near year-long suspension, Mysteel Global noted.
