Induction furnaces based in Jindal's industrial park located in Punjipatra, Raigarh (Central India) have reported drop in production since midnight due to power cut by Jindal Power for 12 hrs/day, which means to the extent of 50%.

There are about 30-35 induction furnaces in the industrial park, which produce approximately 90,000 MT ingot/billet per month and cater primarily to North India.

"Jindal Power Ltd (JPL) has cut power supply from today for unknown reasons. There is no clarity when it will be resumed fully", said an induction furnace owner based in Raigarh.

Meanwhile another participant close to this matter reported that officials from JPL verbally reported that, as of now power supply continue 12 hrs a day due to irregular supply of coal for 15-20 days. However if the same situation persists, power cut duration may increase further.

Jindal Power Ltd is India's first domestic private sector player to commission an independent power plant (IPP) in 2007, and has a total installed capacity of 3,400 MW.

SteelMint's assessment of MS ingot in Raigarh stands at INR 25,500-25,600/MT, Billet at INR 26,000/MT, Sponge C-DRI at INR 16,300-16,500/MT and P-DRI at INR 15,300-15,500/MT ex-plant Raigarh.
