Cargo Handling at 12 Major Indian Ports Fell 21% Y-o-Y in Apr'20

According to the data by Indian Ports Association (IPA), cargo handling activities at the 12 major Indian ports recorded a 21% decline in Apr'20 as compared to the corresponding month in CY'18-19. The ports handled around 47.42 MnT cargoes in this month. The decline in cargo handling was mainly due to virus outbreak.
JNPT, Chennai, Cochin and Kamarajar witnessed huge drop in cargo handling, as per the latest data by IPA. Chennai Port handled about 2.44 MnT cargo while JNPT recorded 3.95 MnT cargo handling in Apr. Cochin Port and Kamarajar Port handled 1.87 MnT and 2.08 MnT cargoes in the same month.
The above stated 12 major ports of India are - Deendayal (erstwhile Kandla), Mumbai, JNPT, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Kamarajar (earlier Ennore), V O Chidambaranar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata (including Haldia). These ports handled around 705 MnT cargoes in the last fiscal.
