Canada's zinc exports stood at 34,925 t in January 2023, up 20% m-o-m as against 29,163 t in December 2022. Export volumes decreased by 3% y-o-y from 36,068 t in January 2022.
Increasing demand of zinc in the US led to higher exports by Canada in January compared with December. Canada started exporting significant volumes to the Netherlands since January, adding to the overall rise in export volumes.
Sub-commodity exports
- Ores/concentrates: Exports remained stable m-o-m in January at 10,000 t compared with December.
- Semi-finished products: Exports rose by 30% m-o-m to 24,925 t in January from 19,163 t in the previous month.
Country-wise exports
- US: Canada exported 24,211 t to the US in the month under review, an increase of nearly 30% m-o-m compared with 18,810 t in December. However, shipments decreased by 25% from 32,394 t in the corresponding period of last year.
- South Korea: Exports to South Korea resumed after a pause: total volumes stood at 10,000 t.
- The Netherlands: Canada's exports to the Netherlands stood at 485 t in January. Shipments to the Netherlands have increased significantly since January compared to low volumes previously.
