Canada Iron Ore Exports Up 24% in Aug'19

Canada iron ore exports recorded at 6.23 MnT in Aug'19, up 24% as against 5.03 MnT in July'19. On yearly basis, exports increased 9% as compared to 5.7 MnT in Aug'18.
Netherland stood largest importer of iron ore for the month at 1.42 MnT, up 84% as against 0.77 MnT in Juy'19. China stood second largest importer at 1.27 MnT against 0.53 MnT a month ago followed by Japan at 0.91 MnT.
For CY19 (Jan-Aug), Canada exports recorded at 33.67 MnT, up 25% as compared to 26.88 MnT in CY18 (Jan-Aug).
Canada coal exports stable in Aug'19
Canadian coal exports have remained almost flat M-o-M during Aug'19. Data provided by customs indicate that the country had exported 3.19 MnT coal in Aug'19 as against 3.14 MnT in Jul'19. However, export volumes were marked 14% higher on the year from 2.81 MnT in Aug'18.
During Aug'19, Japan emerged as the largest coal buyer from Canada, eventually attaining a 3-month high total in the process. Besides, coal intake by India had surged 77% M-o-M to 0.55 MnT in Aug'19.
However, the increase in Canadian coal shipments was pulled back by the hefty decline noted in intake from South Korea and China. Canadian coal exports have reached 23.92 MnT in the first 8 months of CY19 (Jan-Aug'19), up 9% Y-o-Y from 22.03 MnT noted in the year ago-period.
Canada scrap exports down 27% in Aug'19
Canada scrap exports witnessed a significant drop in Aug'19. As it exported 0.38 MnT scrap in the month, down by 27 % M-o-M as against 0.52 MnT in July'19. On yearly premises too, scrap exports declined by 22% Y-o-Y as compared to 0.49 MnT of exports recorded in Aug'18.
United States remained the largest importer with 66% of share in total Canada scrap exports, as the country imported 0.25 MnT in Aug'19 down 7 % M-o-M, as against 0.27 MnT in July'19. Other top scrap importers included Turkey (0.05MnT, down by 74% M-o-M), Bangladesh (0.03MnT, up by 50% M-o-M) and Taiwan (0.03 MnT, up by 50 % M-o-M) & with 13%, 8% & 7% share respectively. While another major importer India, has observed 0.01 MnT of scrap imports from Canada, unchanged since the last three consecutive months.
