Canada: Iron Ore Exports Down 34% M-o-M in Jan'18

Trade statistics released by Canada customs shows that the iron ore exports by the country were recorded at 2.49 MnT in Jan'18. The exports witnessed a decline of 34% M-o-M in Jan'18 as against 3.77 MnT in Dec'17.
On yearly basis, the exports decreased by 22% in Jan'18 as against 3.18 MnT Jan'17.
The non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) witnessed decline of 24% M-o-M to 1.4 MnT in Jan'18 as against 1.84 MnT in Dec'17. The Y-o-Y exports recorded a similar decline of 24% in Jan'18 as against 1.85 MnT in Jan'17.
Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) recorded significant decrease in exports by 43% to 1.09 MnT in Jan'18 as against 1.92 MnT in Dec'17. The Y-o-Y exports also recorded decrease of 19% in Jan'18 as compared to Jan'17 which stood at 1.34 MnT.
Canada iron ore exports to China hit nine month's low:
China imports declined to nine months down in Jan'18 at 0.48 MnT, down 42% M-o-M as against 0.83 MnT in Dec'17. However, China was recorded to be the largest importer from Canada in CY'17 at 7.1 MnT. In Apr'17, China's imports from Canada were recorded at 0.15 MnT.
France stood the largest importer from Canada in the month of Jan'18 at 0.78 MnT (up 66% M-o-M), contributing 31% of total exports from Canada, followed by China at 0.48 MnT and Belgium at 0.3 MnT (down 3%).
Germany imported 0.24 MnT in Jan'18, up thrice the imports in Dec'17, which stood at 0.08 MnT.
