Canada: Ferrous Scrap Exports Shrink 14% in Sept'17

Canada-one of the world's major scrap exporters has witnessed 14% M-o-M fall in its ferrous scrap exports in Sept'17. As per recently released customs data, the nation has exported 0.30 MnT ferrous scrap in Sept'17 against 0.35 MnT ferrous scrap exports in Aug'17.

On yearly premises, export volumes have grown marginally by 7% as Canada's exports were 0.28 MnT ferrous scrap in Sept'16.

During Q3 CY17, Canada exported 0.92 MnT ferrous scrap which was down by 26% Q-o-Q against 1.25 MnT exports during Q2 CY17 however, hiked 5% Q-o-Q against 0.88 MnT exports during Q3 CY16.

The country had exported total 3.37 MnT ferrous scrap over a span of CY16.

USA remain largest importer of ferrous scrap from Canada in Sept'17-

USA remain largest importer comprising 87% of total Canadian ferrous scrap exports in Sept'17.USA imported 0.26 MnT ferrous scrap from Canada in Sept'17. Scrap imports to USA have moved down by 10% M-o-M against 0.29 MnT in Aug'17.

In Sept'17, other major importers of scrap from Canada were Mexico, Taiwan, Bangladesh and India and each of them imported 0.01 MnT ferrous scrap from Canada respectively. However, Turkey remained silent for the 3rd consecutive month with nil imports from Canada.

Canada ferrous scrap exports up 24% Y-o-Y during Jan-Sept'17 -

During the first nine months of CY17 (Jan-Sept'17), Canada exported 2.98 MnT ferrous scrap registering a hike of 24% against 2.40 MnT ferrous scrap exports during the Jan-Sept'16

During the same time frame (Jan-Sept'17), United States imported highest 2.32 MnT ferrous scrap occupying almost 78% of total Canadian ferrous scrap exports followed by Turkey (0.26 MnT), Mexico (0.17 MnT) and Taiwan (0.05 MnT) respectively.

Bangladesh and India each have imported 0.05 MnT and 0.04 MnT ferrous scrap so far in CY17 from Canada.
