Brazil: Vale Iron Ore Exports Fall 26% In Feb'18

Recent trade statistics released by Brazil Customs show that the country has exported around 23.79 MnT iron ore (including pellets) in Feb'18. On monthly basis, iron ore exports were down sharply by 22% M-o-M against 30.44 MnT in Jan'18. Brazil iron ore and pellet exports on yearly basis were also down by 8% for Feb'18 compared to Feb'17 which was stood at 25.73 MnT.
Most of the Brazil iron ore and pellet export to China, therefore any affects in China is directly proportional to Brazil export. Week-long Lunar year holidays and inventory level of iron ore was high on the port in China resulted in less buying interest shown by the traders in China to book vessels from Brazil.
Out of total 23.79 MnT iron ore exported from Brazil in Feb'18, 21.73 MnT was iron ore which recorded a significant decline of 21% M-o-M against 27.52 MnT in Jan'18. This is lowest monthly iron ore export volumes since Apr'17 which was recorded at 22.05 MnT.
Remaining 2.05 MnT was pellets exported in Feb'18, sharply down by 30% M-o-M against 2.92 MnT in Jan'18.
Vale iron ore exports down sharply by 26% in Feb'18:
Vale, the world's largest iron ore producer exported around 89% of iron ore via sea route of the total Brazil exports. In Feb'18, the miner exported 18.11 MnT iron ore via sea route, followed by CSN at 1.70 MnT and Anglo American at 1.05 MnT.
Iron ore exports from Vale have come down sharply by 26% M-o-M to 18.11 MnT in Feb'18 against 24.37 MnT in Jan'18.
China iron ore imports from Brazil down 23% in Feb'18:
China, the largest iron ore importer of Brazilian iron ore, imported around 62% of total Brazilian iron ore exports in Feb'18 via sea route, followed by Malaysia 1.95 MnT ( up sharply fivefold M-o-M), Netherland 1.33 MnT (up 7%) and South Korea 0.66 MnT (up 80% M-o-M).
China's iron ore imports from Brazil have come down sharply from 17.63MnT in Jan'18 to 13.54 MnT in Feb'18.
Feb'18 witnessed a significant increase in imports by Malaysia at 1.95 MnT (up by Fivefold M-o-M) against 0.39 MnT in Jan'18. Mexico, Argentina, and Spain also showed sharp movement in export from Brazil.

Port-wise Brazil iron ore exports in Feb'18:
Ponta Da Madeira accounted for 46% share in Brazil iron ore exports Feb'18 at 10.10 MnT. Other major ports for Brazilian iron ore export were Rio De Janeiro 28% and Tubarao Port 17%.
