Brazil Slab Exports Rise in Sept'18

Brazil, the world's second-largest Semi finished exporter, has exported about 551,613 MT Slabs in September 2018.

As per the recent released data by Brazilian customs - in Sept'18, Slab export rise after recorded the lowest volume in Aug'18 & rise sharply in Sept'18 as against 93,250 MT in Aug'18, While in on yearly basis, surge by 4.78% against 526,448 MT in Sept'17.

During Sept'18, United States has imported approximately 81.48% (449,459 MT) slabs & continues to remain the largest slab buyer of Brazil. And it was noticed that slab export to US rise sharply in June by around 397,000 MT as against 51,998 MT in Aug'18. Inline the other largest importer of Brazilian originated slab was Canada (23,409 MT), Dominican Republic (15,100 MT) & Peru (12,012 MT).

Further it was also come in line that, no major Brazilian slab exports to Turkey, Belgium & Poland was seen in Sept'18.

In the total slab exports during CY18 (Jan-Sept), the most favorable export destination of Brazilian slab was - United States (2,476,471 MT), Turkey (396,922 MT), Germany (295,862 MT) & Dominican Republic (253,042 MT).

In September, the major export of Slabs were from the ports of Itaguai (222,233 MT), Vitoria (221,568 MT) & Fortaleza Porto (96,144 MT). While approximately 34% of exports were done from the port of Vitoria till Sept'18.

-- In the month of Aug'18, the crude steel production of Brazil was around 3,020,000 MT and in CY18 (Jan-Aug) it was approximately 22,904,000 MT. Meanwhile, in CY17 the figure of crude steel production stood at 34,396,100 MT, & 30,212,300 MT in CY16, according to the World Steel Association.

-- Presently, the export offers of 150*150 IS 2830 grade billet are currently at USD 455-465/MT FoB India, 150*150 Q235 are at USD 520-530/MT FoB China & 125*125 3sp at USD 460-465/MT FoB Ukraine.
