Brazil Pig Iron Exports Increase by 5% in 2017

Brazil pig iron export increased about 4.6% in Jan-Dec 2017 against same preceding 2016, the recent trade statistics released by Brazil customs shows. The United States imported more than 44% of the total pig iron exports by Brazil
The exports have increased in line with less availability of Chinese cargoes amid rising scrap & billet prices globally.
United States remains the favorable export destination of Brazilian pig iron in Dec'17 and also in the duration of Jan-Dec'17. In 2017, the Brazil exported pig iron to - United States about 44%, followed by Netherlands (15.14%) and Italy (11.89%).
The major exports were done through Brazil's port of - Rio De Janeiro approximately 35.44% (0.56 MnT) followed by Vitoria 33.83% (0.53 MnT) & Sao Luis 25.68% (0.40 MnT).
With the rise of steel demand globally, the crude steel production of country increased by 4.50% Y-o-Y to 31.57 MnT in 2017. In 2016 the figure of crude steel production in the nation stood at 30.21 MnT.

1. Currently global export prices for basic grade pig iron assessed at USD 355/MT FoB Brazil, USD 355-360/MT FoB India & & USD 360-365/MT FoB Russia.
2. Brazilian Iron ore export offers for Fines Fe 62.5% at USD 51/MT FoB, load port - Tubarao/PDM.
3. Brazil's Iron ore export decline by 5% M-o-M to 30.04 MnT in Dec'17 against 31.61 MnT in Nov'17.
4. Brazil exported about 7.66 MnT billets in CY 2017 (Jan-Dec) as compared to 6.25 MnT in CY 2016, increase by 23% Y-o-Y.
