On 8 April, 2024, the BigMint domestic steel scrap index (end-cutting) at Mandi Gobindgarh rose by INR 100/tonne (t) to INR 40,600/t DAP.

BigMint's billet index inched down by INR 150/t to INR 42,600/t exw-Raipur on 8 April, 2024. The slight decline in the index reflects a cooling off period in the semi-finished steel segment. Billet transactions totalled around 2,160 t were recorded on 8 April, compared to 6,400 t on 5 April.

Sponge iron prices showed a mixed trend, While prices edged down by INR 50-150/t in some major locations, these rose by INR 50-200/t in markets like Rourkela, Ramgarh, and Hyderabad. About 10,100 tonnes (t) of sponge iron transactions were recorded in the country on 8 April compared to 27,650 t on 5 April.
