Bangladesh Bulk Steel Imports: Aug'19

According to bulk vessel line up data compiled with SteelMint, Bangladesh has observed an increase in bulk imports of raw materials like ferrous scrap, Pig Iron & Steel Coils in Aug'19.

Bulk Ferrous Scrap: Bangladesh imported 123,016 MT of bulk ferrous scrap in Aug'19, observing a fall by 30% M-o-M, as against 175,884 MT of imports registered in July'19. On yearly premises, the imports witnessed an increase by 39% Y-o-Y, as against 88,140 MT of bulk scrap imported during the same period a year ago.

United Kingdom remained the largest supplier of bulk ferrous scrap in Aug'19. Followed by other prominent suppliers like USA, Australia & Japan which exported scrap in decent quantity.

Bulk Pig iron: The bulk imports of pig iron to Bangladesh for Aug'19 was recorded at 59,290 MT in Aug'19, as against nil volume reported in Jul'19. On a yearly basis too, the bulk imports showed the same growth, as the same stood at nil volume Aug'18. Notably, all bulk shipments of Pig Iron for the month were recorded from India.

Steel coils: Bulk imports of Steel coils showed sharp growth in Aug'19 as the country imported 69,443 MT, increase by 21% M-o-M as against 57,006 MT imported in Jul'19. However, on a yearly premises, imports have fallen by 14% Y-o-Y, against 81,368 MT reported in Aug'18. Imported HRC offers to Bangladesh from Japan & Taiwan might have remained stable to buyers & steelmakers as these countries were the largest supplier to Bangladesh of steel coils in Aug'19.
