Bangladesh: Bulk Scrap Import Arrivals Down by 29% M-o-M in Mar'20

In Mar '20, Bangladesh's bulk ferrous scrap imports witnessed a decrease by 29% on a monthly basis, on account of low bulk bookings in Jan and Feb'20. The country imported a total of 118,998 MT of scrap in Mar'20 as against 166,970 MT imported in Feb'20, as per vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint.
On yearly premises too, the imports dropped by around 18% Y-o-Y in Mar'20, as against 146,000 MT of scrap in Mar'19. A total of 6 bulk vessels arrived at birth in Mar'20. Notably, this is the third-lowest monthly scrap bulk import registered to the country during the FY'20.
Japan supplied 4 vessels carrying 55,219 MT of bulk ferrous scrap in Mar'20, with 46% of share in total scrap imported by Bangladesh in Mar'20. Followed by other prominent suppliers- Australia and USA with one vessel each, carrying 32,915 MT (28% share) and 30,864 MT (26% share) respectively.
Coal: Coal imports to Bangladesh observed a sharp increase by 587% M-o-M to 1,097,949 MT in Mar'20 as compared to 159,800 MT imported in Feb'20. This is the highest coal imports recorded ever. Notably, Indonesia exported the 100% bulk coal to Bangladesh, with 22 vessels during Mar'20.
Steel Coils: Bulk imports of steel coils witnessed a decrease in Mar'20 as the country imported 47,709 MT, down by 42% M-o-M as against 82,845 MT of coils imported in Feb'20.
Japan supplied the largest quantity of coils with a 55% share in total coils imported by Bangladesh, as it exported 26,134 MT in Mar'20. Another prominent supplier was India, which supplied at 11,427 MT (24% share). Other suppliers were Malaysia (5,075 MT) & Indonesia (5,073 MT) with 11% share each.
Pig Iron: The bulk pig iron imports to Bangladesh recorded at 22,888 MT in Mar'20, as against nil volume in Feb'20. All bulk shipments were recorded from India in the month.
Imports of HBI to Bangladesh reported nil volume in Mar'20.
