Bangladesh Bulk Imports Low in May 2017- Stats

Bangladesh bulk imports of different commodities was low in the month of May 2017, according to data maintained by SteelMint based on vessel line up at Bangladesh main port.
According to data there was a fall of 70% in total trade volumes of major commodities like Coal, HBI, Scrap, Billet and HRC.
Total imports of 81,300 MT were recorded in the month of May 2017 against 274,430 MT in April 2017. This drop is largely due to fall in coal imports, which dropped from 255,000 MT in Mar and 44,000 MT in April to 6,900 MT in May 2017. According to market participants, coal is used by brick field manufacturers in Bangladesh and people do not import during this period due to monsoon.
No bulk Scrap/ HBI/ Pig Iron vessel in May
No bulk scrap and HBI vessel was recorded in the month of May due to volatility in global scrap prices and higher imports in previous months. According to information, over all scrap imports in Bangladesh was low due to low off-take of finished steel. Although steel mills have booked few bulks of scrap vessel for June and July delivery.
