Australia: Iron Ore Export Shipments Dip 13% in Feb'20

Australia - world's largest iron ore exporter has recorded 13% drop in iron ore shipment for Feb'20, according to the vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint. Australia's iron ore export shipments recorded at 58.02 MnT in Feb'20, as compared to 66.75 MnT in Jan'20.
On yearly basis too, exports fell 15% against 67.94 MnT in Feb'20.
Australian iron ore exports dropped due to weak Chinese demand amid Lunar New Year holidays in Jan'20 followed by outbreak of coronavirus. The virus outbreak led to closure at numerous mills leading to falling imports by the Chinese mills.
Australian exports to China down 12% in Feb'20
China marked the largest importer of Australian iron ore in Feb'20 at 48.10 MnT, down 12% M-o-M against 54.51 MnT in Jan'20. Korea stood second-largest importer for the month at 4.59 MnT (down 9% M-o-M) followed by Japan at 3.57 MnT.
Australian exports to India recorded nil for the eleventh consecutive month in Feb'20.

In Feb'20, Port Hedland exported 38.55 MnT iron ore, down 5% against 40.70 MnT in Jan'20. Walcott stood second-largest exporter at 10.33 MnT, followed by Dampier at 7.83 MnT.
