Australia: Iron ore export shipments down 10% in July'20

Australia - world's largest iron ore exporter has recorded iron ore export shipment at 72.39 mn t for July'20, down 10% as against 80.48 mn t in June'20, according to the vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint.

Stocks for Australian mid-grade fines remained tight in China resulting in higher prices of such products. The average global iron ore prices for Fe 62% fines in July'20 witnessed rise to $107/t, CFR China as against average price of about $103/t, CFR China in June'20.
However, on a yearly basis, exports shipments in July'20 picked marginally against 71.03 mnt in July'19.

Australian exports to China down 11% in July'20

China marked the largest importer of Australian iron ore for the month of July at 62.3 mnt, down 11% against 69.6 mnt in June'20. South Korea stood as the second-largest importer for the month at 4.8 mnt (down 9% m-o-m) followed by Japan at 3.3 mnt.

Australian export shipments to India continue to record nil for the month. The export to India was last witnessed on Mar'19 at 185,000 t.

Port Hedland accounted for 61% of exports in July

In July'20, Port Hedland exported 43.8 mnt of iron ore, down 13% against 50.6 mnt in June 20. Walcott stood second-largest exporter at 14.7 mnt, followed by Dampier at 12.1 mnt and Graldton at 1.04 mnt.
