AM/NS India lowers merchant iron ore sourcing on improved captive supplies

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India)- an Indian steel major has recorded iron ore and pellet sourcing of 1.27 mn t in Nov'20, down 4% as against 1.32 mn t in Oct'20. The figure includes AMNS captive iron ore procurement. However, its merchant sourcing (including imports) has come down from 1 mn t in Oct'20 to 0.9 mn t in Nov'20. Notably its sourcing from captive Odisha mine increased to 0.36 mn t in Nov'20.

Apart from company's domestic iron ore sourcing, the company also imported iron ore.

Iron ore procurement from NMDC (C.G.) up 28% for the month
Steelmaker procured 680,000 t of iron ore in Nov'20 from NMDC's Bailadila mines (Chhattisgarh) via a slurry pipeline, against Oct'20 at 533,155 t.

Sourcing from Odisha merchant mines decreased 48% in Nov'20
The company sourced 128,756t iron ore from Odisha's merchant mines, fall of 48% m-o-m against Oct sourcing at 246,241 t.

Sourcing from OMC dropped sharply to 4,823 t for the month as compared to 24,820 t in Oct'20.

Out of the total iron ore sourced from Odisha merchant mines in Nov'20, the largest share was contributed by Rungta mines at 102,069 t, followed by MGM minerals at 21,987 t.

Imports fall by 52% m-o-m

The company has reported iron ore import volumes at 95,682 t in Nov'20 from Ukraine. The company recorded nil pellet imports for the month as against 199,670 t in Oct'20, according to customs data maintained with SteelMint.
