Australia iron ore export shipments remain largely stable in Sep'20

Australia - world's largest iron ore exporter has recorded iron ore export shipments of 72.64 mn t for Sep'20. Shipments remained largely stable on monthly basis against 72.1 mn t in Aug'20, according to the vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint.

On y-o-y basis, Australia iron ore export shipments picked up slightly as compared to 71.25 mn t in Sep'19.

Export shipments to China up slightly in Sep'20
Australia's iron ore export shipments to China stood at 61.1mnt in Sept'20, up against 60.5 mnt in Aug'20. South Korea stood as the second-largest importer for the month at 4.9 mnt (up 4% m-o-m) followed by Japan at 4.1 mnt.

Australian export shipments to India continue to record nil for the month. The export to India was last witnessed on Mar'19 at 185,000 t.

Port Hedland exports down 4% m-o-m
In Sep'20, Port Hedland exported 44.2 mnt of iron ore, down 4% against 46.2 mnt in Aug'20. Walcott stood second-largest exporter at 14.5 mnt, followed by Dampier at 12.4 mnt and Geraldton at 0.7 mnt.

Prices increased in Sept'20
Monthly average global iron ore fines (Fe 62%) price increased to $124/t, CFR China in Sep'20 against that in last month at $122/t, CFR China.
