Sluggishness Persists in Indian Anthracite Coal Market; Import Offers Up USD 2/MT

Anthracite Coal prices continue to exhibit a rising trend in international regions, and that is due to rising demand internationally and also on account of the increasing prices of other coal variants.

The latest import offer of Anthracite Coal is assessed higher by around USD 2/MT, at USD 129/MT CFR India.

However, the upward movement in the prices will not impact Indian buyers as they preferred alternate fuels. Demand for Anthracite Coal has thus remained lackluster in India.

Ukraine-based power company--Centrenergo--is learnt to schedule for importing 280,000 ton of Anthracite Coal from South Africa during the Oct-Dec'16 period.

IMPORTS

Understandably, sluggish demand in the country has restricted imports. During the 1-19Oct'16 period, only 56,700 MT of Anthracite Coal was imported into the country, according to CoalMint Research. The importers were: Bengal Energy and Rawmet Commodities.
